Newsletter Century 21 Kochie come see the Sunrise in Port Douglas
An Open Letter to Port Douglas Locals and Business Owners,
As you are well aware, during the past two years, our town has suffered economically more than most in Australia, and probably will continue to do so for the next couple of years.
Recently Century 21 Port Douglas initiated contact with Kochie of Channel 7’s Sunrise Program to attempt to convince him to visit Port Douglas and assist us with some positive publicity.
In brief:
- The GFC influenced people to not holiday or to stay closer to their homes when holidaying.
- The stronger Australian Dollar encourages Australian residents to holiday in Bali, Fiji, NZ, Thailand and now with the Australian Dollar so close to parity even the USA and Europe is inviting. We as a tourist town can not compete with countries where labour costs are cheap.
- The “snowballing”effect for Port Douglas due to a decreasing number of tourists and lesser spending by those who visit, has had drastic effects on this town. Investment returns are down, businesses have closed, others are having difficulty surviving, real estate values have decreased from 25% to 60%, holiday complexes and investment properties are struggling and evidence prevails to indicate unemployment numbers are rising. The primary school enrolment numbers are down and an exodus of locals and workers continues.
4. Virtually all development activity has ceased, and little activity in this area is expected for quite some time.
5. Voluntary organisations like the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre are being stretched to the limits, to provide support to many local residents.
Needless to say we are a small population and the politicians are not interested, or appear not to be interested in hearing our story or assisting our town in any substantial way.
We are contacting you today to encourage you to support the push to get Kochie and or the Sunrise Program to Port Douglas.
For business owners we ask that a simple letter (preferably on your letterhead) stating that you would like to invite Kochie and the Sunrise team to town to see a Port Douglas sunrise would be all that is required of you.
For individuals, residents and fans of Port Douglas this link will take you to a petition you can sign on line http://www.gopetition.com/petition/40244/signatures.html
Please either email your letters to marketing@c21portdouglas.com.au or via snail mail addressed to the Marketing Manager PO BOX 323 Port Douglas 4877.
Our mission will be to compile as many letters from locals and business owners and to send them direct to the producers of the Channel Seven Sunrise Program and David Koch.
This is not a big ask but it will get a big result for Port Douglas with your assistance.
Before you disregard this think about the impact we can have as a whole town.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Warm Regards,
Century 21 Port Douglas Real Estate
