HOUSES UP APARTMENTS DOWN
The home building see-saw continues, with approvals dropping again in May, according to data released this week by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The total number of dwellings approved fell 7.9 per cent seasonally adjusted following a fall of 0.3 per cent in the previous month.
This was due mainly to a drop in approvals for apartments or `other dwellings’, which fell 20.1 per cent following a rise of 7.9 per cent last month.
The seasonally adjusted estimate for private sector houses approved rose 0.7 per cent in May following a fall of 2.3 per cent in the previous month.
The seasonally adjusted estimate for private sector `other dwellings’ approved fell 20.1 per cent following a rise of 7.9 per cent last month.
The seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of total building approved fell 2.8 per cent in May following a fall of 20.7 per cent last month.
The seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of total residential building fell 2.7 per cent.
